Using the original architectural drawings of the building, we found an overhead light that was a close match to the original overhead light during WWI

Father Kapaun received the Medal of Honor posthumously, awarded by President Obama in 2013. His nephew, Ray Kapaun, accepted the award on his behalf.
Father Kapaun received posthumously South Korea's highest military decoration, the Taegeuk Order of Military Merit for his actions in the Korean War.

Mark gave an engaging talk on the history of the Herington Army Airfield Base during WWII.
Our community is lucky to have Mark helping keep this important part of our history alive.

We had a nice turnout who enjoyed having a breakfast of coffee and donuts.
Dave shared heartfelt stories about his family's history and growing up near Latimer.
Dave has a vast knowledgeable of Kansas and the Flint Hills and now has a new role as Executive Producer of Prairie Hollow Productions.
Phase 2 of our window restoration is complete—3 large and 5 small windows installed on August 8, 2025 by John and Linus Wood of WoodWorks Restoration from Denton, Kansas. Only 10 more to go out of a total of 20 windows - We're making progress!

Kansas Historical Society Inspection - July 27, 2023
Historic preservationists from the Kansas State Historical Society in Topeka, Jamee Fiore Krivenko, National & State Register Coordinator, and Rick Anderson, National Register Historian, came to Latimer to review our building to determine if the building is eligible for listing on the Register of Historic Kansas Place. The final decision of the Historic Sites Board of Review is on November 5th 2023.
